Knoxville Hospital and Clinics reminds families to start bringing routines back ahead of the upcoming school year.

School will start for Knoxville students on Monday and Dr. Hoque with the hospital says it is important to start getting kids back into the school year routine. It is recommended for students to start going to bed at the time they would on a school night and waking up at the time they would for class, and to not wait until the night before school starts to implement the schedule. Dr. Hoque also says healthy eating habits are important for kids at meals or snack time.

“I think an important thing to think about is just portion size. There is no such thing as good or bad foods, but to just think about things in moderation, an appropriate size of snacks for kids so they’re not filling up on those so they have room for their healthy meals and things. There are a  lot of easy healthy snacks like fruit, a really good one, some granola bars, crackers, things like that, cheese, just a variety is really important too. Juice and pop are never snacks, they’re not a good routine thing to have in your diet but milk and water are your best options.”

Dr. Hoque also expressed the importance of kids practicing good hygiene habits.
