Starting tonight, the Newton girls tennis team has three back-to-back-to-back tennis duals in Indianola, Ballard, and Oskaloosa. The match-up with the Indians this evening is the third competition of the season for the Cardinals. Newton head coach Erick Zher says one of the major challenges for the team this year is how fast the meets come in this new fall season.

“We get about a week of practice and then all of a sudden it’s meets. August is heavy with meets. There are a couple of team meets in September, then it’s on to the post-season.”

Zehr hopes that the season schedule is revised next fall, so more of the meets occur while the athletes are in school.

The Cardinals girls tennis team is 0-1 in duals while Indianola is 1-2. Today’s meet at Indianola begins at 4:15 p.m.
