The Pella Knights of Columbus Annual Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities continues for the 27th year this weekend.
Members of the Knights will be at the Pella Hy-Vee, Fareway, and Theisen’s Stores this Saturday to collect donations for the campaign. Joe Lickteig with the Knights of Columbus says they are also bringing back their sixth annual Pellathon on Thursday, August 28th from 10 am to 8 pm at St. Mary’s Church. Lickteig also says that in addition to members of the Knights of Columbus, they will also have non-members from St. Mary’s Church that will be helping make phone calls, and that they are also encouraging those that appreciate this cause to help them try to meet their fundraising goal.
“Our parish is going to get involved this year too. We’re going to have non Knights of Columbus joining the call team, so if you’re out there in Pella and you hold this cause dear to your heart, we would love to have you come in on the 28th, sit in the hot seat for an hour and make fifteen calls with us on that day as we shoot to raise maybe $65,000 or $70,000. And mix that in with our storefront, which will hopefully raise about $5,000, we’re hoping to get into that $75,000 number on that day if possible.”
The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio is also returning to the Knights of Columbus Pellathon event. The funds received from the campaign will help support the special education departments at Pella and Pella Christian schools, as well as Christian Opportunity Center, 818 Forward with Faith, and the Iowa Special Olympics.
Donations for the campaign can also be made here and those interested in participating in the campaign, whether as a caller for the Pellathon or as a donor to the cause, are encouraged to call 641-628-3078.
