An extensive construction project along the Mile Long Bridge remains on schedule, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation. DOT Planner Chris Kukla says contractors are leading up to a late October completion of the Iowa Highway 14 Bridge over the Des Moines River. Currently, curb work and over half the deck replacement is complete, with remaining tasks including completing the deck replacement and the bridge approaches. Additional phases on the stretch of Highway 14 between Knoxville and Monroe are scheduled through 2028. Phase two next year includes a deck overlay of the bridge over White Breast Creek and the bridge over Teter Creek — Iowa 14 will remain open to through traffic and the bridges will be reduced to one lane controlled by a traffic signal. The next two phases include reconstruction of sections of Highway 14 in 2027 and 2028.
