Entering their second full year with an integrated school board, operations at Pella Christian Schools have been going well according to Head of Schools Dan Zylstra.
Society members at Pella Christian voted on the integration of the grade school and high school boards into one legal entity in February of 2024, with over 90% of ballots approving the merger. The integration went into effect in July of 2024, and Zylstra says that the transition has gone smoothly. Zylstra adds that the boards have been working on ways to unify the grade school and high school, which included a new mission statement to unify the goal of each building.
“The administration and members of the board met as a committee, and we spent time really trying to discern who we are as a school and what we’re about moving forward. We came up with a new mission statement that really represents the essence of Pella Christian, and that statement is ‘Empowering God’s Children to Join in His Restorative Work.’ That’s what we do here at Pella Christian and the year-long process that led to that has been a great thing to discern ourselves and also been a great thing to propel us forward into this next year.”
