
The Pella Christian girls tennis squad improved to a perfect 4-0 overall on the season Wednesday morning, defeating Grinnell 8-3 in a non-conference matchup.
Remaining unbeaten in singles matches, senior Ava Breems knocked off her opponent 6-2, 6-1 at #1, while sophomore Trinley Gibson took her contest at #3 singles 7-5, 6-1. Senior Chloe Nikkel improved to 3-1 in singles play in her debut season, winning in the #4 spot in the lineup 6-1, 6-1. Fellow senior Kate Braafhart also secured a win at #5 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win, while sophomore Elsa Breems gave the Eagles a 5-1 advantage in the match with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at #6. In doubles play, Gibson and Chloe Nikkel at #2 won a super-tiebreaker while Braafhart and Elsa Breems at #3 and Ava Nikkel and Clair Van Wyngarden at #4 each won two sets to give the Eagles the win. Trinley and Chloe dropped their first set 4-6, but battled back to take the second set 6-1, before winning the super-tiebreaker 10-4. Kate and Elsa cruised past their opponents to win 6-3, 6-2 at #3, while Ava and Clair added a 6-2, 7-6 win at #4.
Pella Christian returns to Little Hawkeye Conference play today, hosting Norwalk at 4:15 pm.
