The Newton Fire Department is using grant funds to acquire a new tool to teach child fire safety. Newton Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik says the current trailer they use to teach school aged children is showing signs of age, so the department is purchasing an inflatable fire safety house that costs $5,295. Newton Fire Marshall Jacob Halferty worked with the National Fire Safety Council to get information on the inflatable alternative. A 2025 Local Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services grant of $5,295 will go towards the purchase. The inflatable fire safety house is being acquired from the National Fire Safety Council of Odessa, Missouri.
