
The candidate filing period for city elections opens on Monday in Marion County for the upcoming General Election on November 4th.
For the 2025 election cycle, the filing period is August 25th – September 18th. The Iowa League of Cities offers a 2025 City Candidate’s Guide for those interested in city council, school board, or mayor or anyone who wants to learn more information about the election process. Find the candidate guide here. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery says the candidate guide is a great way to learn more information about the election process.
“The Iowa League of Cities puts out information, it’s a city candidate guide so it’s for anyone interested in the overall election process, the dates, as well as anyone who is interested in running for city council or mayor. It provides some additional information on what that role is.”
Two city council seats in Knoxville and the mayor are up for reelection in 2025 and two school board members in Knoxville are up for reelection as well.
In Pella, three seats are up for election, including an At-Large spot and in Wards 1 and 3. Find details about the Pella City Council election here.
