The Pella Knights of Columbus’ sixth annual Pellathon will take place next week at St. Mary’s Church, which will help raise funds for local organizations supporting those with intellectual disabilities.
The Pellathon, which is part of the Knights’ Campaign for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, will take place from 10 am to 8 pm next Thursday. During the event, callers will be reaching out to community members and businesses to raise funds, which will help support the special education departments at Pella and Pella Christian schools, as well as Christian Opportunity Center, 818 Forward with Faith, and the Iowa Special Olympics. Aaron Bohn with the Knights of Columbus says that he enjoys getting to support these organizations through the campaign, and also having the opportunity to see the impact that their efforts have.
“We’re able to see firsthand how everybody’s living, what they do on a daily basis, and truly understand what that impact of us being able to donate money to them is. There was a group of Knights that went up to the Iowa Special Olympics this year and had a blast. I mean, the stories they told coming back of just the opportunity and experience to see firsthand all the people participating, and just knowing that we as a community were able to make an impact on that is pretty exciting.”
The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio is also returning to the Knights of Columbus Pellathon event on Thursday. Donations for the campaign can also be made here and those interested in participating in the campaign, whether as a caller for the Pellathon or as a donor to the cause, are encouraged to call 641-628-3078.
