The 2025-26 school year has begun for the Indianola School District, and the Indianola Police Department is rolling out their annual traffic safety campaign “Slow Down! School’s Back in Session” this week.
IPD Interim Lieutenant Brad Metcalf tells KNIA News Key focus areas of the campaign include school bus safety including a safe following distance and stopping whenever the stop sign is out, yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks, limiting distracted driving, and reducing vehicle speeds in school zones.
The Indianola Police Department has partnered with the Carlisle Police Department, Norwalk Police Department and Iowa State Patrol. Additional enforcement is supported through a grant from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
