Improving to 5-1 overall on the season, the Pella Christian girls tennis team defeated Indianola 7-4 Monday evening.

The Eagles and Indians evenly split the singles matches during the contest, with each team taking three of the six matches, but the Eagles won two of the three super-tiebreakers in doubles play to pull out a 4-1 advantage and improve to 2-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. In singles action, Lexi Branderhorst notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #3, while Kate Braafhart added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at #5. Chloe Nikkel secured Pella Christian’s third win in singles play, taking her match at #4 in a super-tiebreaker 6-1, 4-6, 1-0. In doubles play, Ava Breems and Branderhorst gave the Eagles a 6-2, 6-2 win at #1, while Ava Nikkel and Clair Van Wyngarden also won 6-3, 6-2 at #4. Pella Christian’s final two victories on the night came in super-tiebreakers, with Trinley Gibson and Chloe Nikkel outlasting their opponents 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 at #2, and Reagan Rus and Morgan Sheredy also taking the #5 doubles match 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.

The Eagles’ girls tennis squad will return to action later this week, hosting Oskaloosa on Thursday at 4:15 pm.
