The Norwalk cross country teams and volleyball team all opened the 2025 season on Tuesday.

The Warrior boys and girls cross country teams competed at the Ankeny Centennial Jaguar Invite at DMACC, both placing third. 

Norwalk senior Teegan Kralik was the overall boys champion, placing first with a five-kilometer time of 15:47. Teammates Sam Parker and Lane Osterloh placed ninth and 10th, respectively, Sam Buhrow finished 20th and Aksel Beedon was 26th out of 249 total runners.

For the Warrior girls, Olive DeRocher placed eighth overall in 19:46, closely followed by Hannah Schmitz in 10th and Gabby Drymon 12th. Pearl Brown finished 20th.

The Norwalk harriers return to action Thursday, September 4, at the Kirk Schmaltz Invitational at Iowa State University.

Volleyball

The Norwalk volleyball team lost a four-setter at Dowling Catholic in Tuesday’s season opener. The Class 4A fifth-ranked Warriors took the first set 25-20, but the 5A fifth-ranked Maroons responded by winning the next three sets 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.

Elle Hatlevig tallied 14 kills to lead Norwalk, Hadley Michael set 30 assists and Reese Heim had a team-high 11 digs. Michael added nine digs and Ava Carlson had eight digs while serving 21-for-22 with three aces.

The Warriors will play three matches at Thursday’s Southeast Polk Quad. Starting at 5:00 p.m., Norwalk will face Southeast Polk, Humboldt and Indianola.
