The Melcher-Dallas Cross Country Squads opened their seasons in Albia on Thursday. Neither team had enough runners to post a score. On the boys side, Trace Mann led the way with a 50th place finish in a time of 21:19, Austin Remster was 56th in a time of 21:51, and Tristan Steele was 94th with a time of 30:17. For the girls, Amber Addington was 49th with a time of 26:54, and Alice Lamb was 58th with a time of 28:08. The Saints will head to Wayne next Thursday.

Looking to continue the progress made last season, the Melcher-Dallas Football Squad opens the season against Lamoni at home tonight. The Saints are looking at this season to make even greater strides over last year and second year Coach Jason Mason tells KNIA Sports an expanded playbook along with new additions to the coaching staff have him fired up for the season opener.

Mason: “We came a long way from day one to the end of the season. We’ve developed quite a bit and this is year two of the system and we’re pretty excited to have some fun and looking forward to week one.”

The Demons suffered heavy gradation losses last season as their do-everything athlete Ambrose Savage, who accounted for 75% of the offense, graduated. Tonight is the Saints home opener and kick off is set for 7:00.
