The City of Newton has submitted an application to the Iowa Department of Transportation for funds to replace the traffic signal controller equipment at the West 8th Street and First Avenue West Intersection. Newton Public Works Director Joe Grife says the equipment is nearing the end of its useful life. The funding sought is from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Improvement Program, which offers financial assistance for traffic safety improvements, traffic control devices, and studies. The Program is funded by Iowa’s Road Use Tax. The City of Newton has budgeted $160,000 for the project.
