The #3 in 1A Pella girls tennis team kept things rolling with an 11-0 sweep of Newton at home on Thursday. It completes a stretch of six meets in eight days for the green and white. Hear from Coach Bouska this Saturday on the Hy-Vee Radio Coaches Corner and from Addi Namminga and Abby Hietbrink on Monday’s edition of “Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page.” The Dutch are back on the courts on Wednesday at Norwalk.
Pella’s #3 in 4A volleyball team had its debut on the long road east to Mount Vernon on Thursday, going 2-1 in their opening matches. The Dutch defeated the hosting #8 in 3A Mustangs 2-0 (25-23, 25-17), fell to #4 in 3A Mid-Prairie 2-0 (18-25, 19-25), and knocked off #12 in 4A Bondurant-Farrar 2-1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-11).
Head Coach Joel Allman says it was a good first step on what they hope is a long fall journey.
“I thought we did some really nice things tonight and also learned some great lessons. We had times where our offense got predictable, but other times when girls stepped up offensively when we needed them to. We will continue to grow as a team throughout the year in that area, which I am excited to see.”
The Dutch hit the road to Bondurant on Saturday for the Skip Anderson Classic.
