The Indianola football team took advantage of Norwalk miscues in their season opening bout Friday, winning 28-14 heard live on 94.3 KNIA and the KNIA3 stream on KNIAKRLS.com.
Indianola struck first on just their second offensive play as quarterback Asher Brueck hit Rylan Hilton on a 47-yard strike to lead 7-0, only for the Warriors to answer as Eli Robbins went 99-yards on the kickoff return to tie the score.

Indianola struck for a score late in the second quarter on a Brueck 1-yard touchdown run as the Indians led 14-7 at halftime. A scoreless third saw the Indianola offense go on two long drives and held Norwalk to just one possession and six plays, and the Indians found paydirt on the first play of the fourth on another Brueck 12-yard rushing score to lead 21-7.

Norwalk found tight end Luke Brewer for a 69-yard score to get the game close, and nearly recovered an onside kick, but Indianola put the game away on a Brueck 17-yard touchdown scramble to get to the final tally.

Indianola head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports Brueck found the endzone with his legs, which adds a new dimension to the Indians offense, but it was finding eight different receivers through the air that showed off their depth.

“We felt like we have a lot of depth at that position, they’ve really proved themselves in the preseason. You saw a lot of different combinations of receivers running in and out, different personnel packages. We were able to throw the ball tonight, and had guys that took that opportunity.”

Norwalk had multiple touchdowns called back due to penalties in the contest. Robbins had 106 yards from scrimmage in addition to the kickoff return to lead Norwalk, while Brueck had 187 yards through the air and the three rushing scores. Indianola improves to 1-0 and will travel to Carlisle next week, while Norwalk falls to 0-1 and will host Sioux City East.
