There is strong student interest in the Esports program that is coming to Newton High School this winter thanks to Newton Police Officer Kyle Lovan. He was the School Resource Officer at Berg Middle School, and raised the $24,000 needed to start the program. He’s now the School Resource Officer at Newton High School, where there is a new Esports room with ten gaming stations. But based on a student survey, Officer Lovan says the interest in Esports is more than five times the current number of gaming terminals.
“As of right now, I have about 53 students who have shown an interest. So well more than I expected, which is great. But with this much interest, I wish I had about ten more PC Stations, which would be 20 total. That would be great.”
Officer Lovan expects Newton Esports will begin competing this winter. He talks more about this new activity at Newton High School on Monday’s Let’s Talk Newton.
