
The Pella Christian volleyball team opened the 2025 season Saturday at Bondurant-Farrar by going 1-5 at the Skip Anderson Classic.
The Eagles opened the tournament by sweeping Ankeny Christian Academy in their first pool play matchup 21-9, 23-21, but fell to the host Blue Jays in three sets 21-16, 10-21, 13-15 in their second match. Wrapping up pool play, Pella Christian fell to Little Hawkeye Conference foe Indianola 16-21, 14-21, then opened bracket play by falling to Roland-Story 11-21, 14-21. Wrapping up the day, the Eagles narrowly fell in two sets to Gilbert 20-22, 22-24, before dropping another close match to Des Moines Roosevelt in three sets 21-17, 18-21, 11-15.
Senior Brynn Roozeboom powered the Pella Christian offensive attack in their first six matches of the season, posting a team-high 37 kills throughout the six games. Junior Brynn Runner led the Eagles in the tournament with 80 assists and 36 digs, while also tying with Rachel Kacmarynski for the second most blocks on the day with six. Kacmarynski added 25 kills and 24 digs on the day. Sophia Slagter led Pella Christian in blocks with seven throughout the six matches, while Addie Van Arendonk posted a team-leading eight service aces.
The Eagles will look to bounce back from their opening weekend in their Little Hawkeye Conference opener on Tuesday at Oskaloosa at 7:15 pm.
