
Dutch Dominate Beavers in Women’s Tennis Win
Across all nine matches, the Central College women’s tennis team only dropped 10 games in a 7-0 sweep of Buena Vista University Tuesday.
The Dutch (2-0, 1-0 American Rivers Conference) earned the doubles point with a clean sweep of the three doubles matches over the Beavers. Emma Murphy and Lauren Gano were 6-2 winners at the top while Jenna Mitsuko Mahoney and Rebekah Christensen won 6-1 at No. 2. Emily Blom and Sidney Peterson shut out their opponents 6-0 at No. 3. Mitsuko Mahoney and Gano won by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Murphy took No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0. Blom, Peterson and Christensen all won 6-0, 6-0 to close out the lineup in order.
Central hosts Simpson College at 1 p.m. Saturday in an American Rivers Conference dual.
Central Sweeps Past Knox in Volleyball Victory
Playing its fifth straight home game to open the season Wednesday, the Central College volleyball team dispatched Knox College (Ill.) 25-16, 25-16, 25-14.
Central (3-2) used 14 different players, with 12 recording at least one point via kill or service ace. As a team, Central recorded a hitting percentage of .277 with 52 total kills compared to just 16 kills for the Prairie Fire (0-5). Outside hitter Paige Sexton was the kills leader for the Dutch with 10 while middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm added eight on 10 swings. Libero Colleen Kenney led the team with 12 digs and four service aces. Setter Makayla Ribble paced the team with 25 set assists.
Central plays three matches in St. Paul, Minnesota this weekend, starting with a 7 p.m. match Friday against Hamline University (Minn.).
