It was a double dose of Knoxville wins on Tuesday as the Volleyball Squad swept Davis County in a key early season South Central Conference match 25-12, 25-11 and 25-22. While it was not the conference clincher, it felt like the winning team would seize control of the conference race and the Panthers gained control early feeding off of Davis County hitting errors and making their own breaks as well. While the 3rd set was not quite as clean as the first two, the Panthers made key plays down the stretch to earn the win. Junior Setter Addy Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports the team fed off the home crowd and decided they were not going to be denied.
Dunkin: “I think it was a lot of our pregame, having a lot of fun, and focusing and the game plan and coming out and playing well. I’m just really proud of all of the girls tonight.”
Addi Williams led the Panthers with nine kills and was 17/17 serving with four aces. Jordyn Counts had eight kills and was 13/13 serving with two aces. Dunkin had 22 assists while Abbie Keitges came up with 17 digs, one of them was career dig #1,000. Knoxville is 6-4 and begins conference play at 1-0.
Meanwhile across the street at the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts, many of the same girls were busy playing tennis before the volleyball match as Knoxville took its first non-conference dual 5-4 over Oskaloosa. Bridgette Liston, Addy Dunkin, Jordyn Counts, and Ashlynne Marvelli won singles matches. Counts and Dunkin also teamed up to win at #2 doubles. Volleyball will head to the Atlantic Invitational on Saturday while tennis hosts Albia on Thursday.
