A busy night awaits the fall sports teams at Pella Christian, as the girls tennis team hosts Newton this afternoon and the volleyball squad hosts two other schools for a triangular.

The Eagles girls tennis squad comes into today’s Little Hawkeye Conference match against the Cardinals with a 6-1 record. Pella Christian last competed a week ago, defeating Oskaloosa 10-1. Newton enters the contest seeking just their second win of the season, after falling to 1-5 in an 11-0 loss to Pella last week. The Eagles are hoping to extend their winning streak to three straight matches in the series, after earning an 11-0 sweep this past spring and a 5-2 victory in regional play in the spring of 2024. Newton’s last victory in the series came in the regular season meeting in 2024, but Pella Christian holds the overall advantage with a 7-2 record against the Cardinals since 2016.

The Eagles home volleyball tournament this evening will feature a fellow Class 3A team in Davis County, and a Class 2A school in Pleasantville. Pella Christian enters their home triangular with a 2-5 overall mark, after going 1-5 at the Skip Anderson Invitational last Saturday and sweeping rival Oskaloosa in straight sets on Tuesday. Pleasantville enters the tournament with an unblemished 3-0 record to start the season. The Trojans last competed on Tuesday, defeating West Central Valley 3-2, after earning a pair of 2-0 sweeps over Chariton and Interstate 35 last Thursday. Davis County fell to 1-2 overall on the season after being swept 3-0 by Knoxville Tuesday.  The Mustangs lone victory came in a three set match at Ottumwa’s triangular against the hosts last Thursday, while their other loss came to Mount Pleasant at that triangular.

The Pella Christian girls tennis match begins at 4:15 pm, while the volleyball team’s home triangular against Davis County and Pleasantville is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm.
