Three Newton Girls teams have separate contests today in Pella, Des Moines, and Grinnell. 

The Cardinals girls tennis team kicks off today’s action with a Little Hawkeye Conference match at Pella Christian. Newton is 1-5 in duals, with a 6-5 victory against Oskaloosa on August 21st. Since then, the Cardinals dropped two matches against Boone and Pella 11-0. Morgan Frehse and Brooklyn Sterling both have five match wins so far this season, while Sloan Broderson and Ava Williams both have two. Pella Christian is 5-1, and  last played at home against Oskaloosa a week ago, and earned a 10-1 win.

The Newton volleyball team is taking part in a triangular at Grand View Christian in Des Moines, competing against the hosts and North Polk. The Cardinals are coming off a three-set loss at Indianola on Tuesday, but still have a record of 5-2. Team leaders include Morgan Frehse with 59 kills, Isabelle Rawlins with 120 assists, and Camryn Klein with 33 digs and 14 aces. 

The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls swim team opened the season a week ago by winning the Williamsburg Triangular, and have been idle since then. They take on Ankeny, Grinnell, and Indianola at the Grinnell Girls Swim Meet at the Grinnell College Natatorium. The Cardinals’ wins last week were against Marshalltown 55-36, and Fort Dodge 53.5-30.5. 

The Newton girls tennis team plays at Pella Christian at 4:15 p.m., the Cardinals volleyball team starts the Grand View Christian Triangular at 5:00 p.m., and the Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls take to the water at the Grinnell College Natatorium at 7 p.m.
