Two early turnovers set the tone in the 1st quarter and Knoxville could never recover in a 42-8 loss to Mount Pleasant on Friday heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers fumbled on their first offensive play and Mount Pleasant drove down on a short field and scored to go up 7-0. On Knoxville’s next offensive play, Roston McCarty threw an interception and the Maroon and Gold Panthers turned that into another score to go up 14-0. Knoxville was stymied constantly by Mount Pleasant’s defense, limiting the Black and Gold Panthers to just 118 yards total offense. Coach Matt Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports his guys were doing everything they could, but Mount Pleasant was too much.
Dunkin: “Trying everything and coaching them up during the game. They were sending outside backers, trying to load that up and then sending a middle back. We just need to pick those things up next time.”
Knoxville’s only score came in the 4th quarter when McCarty found Eli Fuller for a 20 yard touchdown. Knoxville is now 0-2 and will visit Albia next Friday.
