Norwalk Girls Tennis Takes 3rd at Little Hawkeye Conference Meet

The Norwalk Girls Tennis Team secured 3rd place at the Little Hawkeye Conference Tennis Tournament on Thursday in Indianola after rules separated a three-way tiebreaker for 2nd place. Pella Christian finished 2nd and Indianola finished 4th as all three teams scored a total of 36 team points.

In the first flight of singles, third-seeded Leah Black won her first-round match in two sets before losing in the semifinals by injury default to the eventual champion in Pella Christian’s Ava Breems. Black ultimately finished in 4th place. In flight two, 2nd-seeded Elena Harder won her first-round match before losing her second and finishing in 4th place.

In the first flight of doubles, the second-seeded tandem of Logan Geisler and Kierdyn Stockwell won their first-round match in two sets and their second-round match in three sets before losing in the finals in two sets and finishing as runner-up. In the second flight of doubles, the third-seeded pairing of Jacey Crane and Myla Brown won their first and second-round matchups before falling in the finals, finishing as runner-up in the second flight.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday at the Class 2A Region 8 Individual Tournament at the Waukee Northwest High School courts beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Norwalk Girls Cross Country 6th, Boys 10th at Marshalltown

The Class 4A #7 Norwalk Girls Cross Country team placed sixth, while the 4A #7 boys finished in 10th at the Bobcat Invitational at Marshalltown Community College on Thursday. Sophomore Olive DeRocher led the Norwalk girls once again, placing 10th in the meet with a time of 19:03. Hannah Schmitz followed eight seconds behind placing 12th and Gabby Drymon placed 19th. The boys team was led by senior Teegan Kralik who placed 9th with a time of 15:42. Sam Parker was the only other Warrior in the top 50, placing 21st finishing with a time of 16:09. Both Warriors cross country teams will return to action next Saturday as they are scheduled to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota and the Heartland Classic at Central College.
