While drought isn’t in place yet, it’s been unusually dry across Marion County and other parts of south central Iowa. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows abnormally dry conditions in most of Marion County for the first time in several weeks. According to the Iowa State University Mesonet, rainfall estimates show only one-to-two inches of precipitation fell in the area since August 1st. This came after several rounds of heavy rain in the early parts of the summer. Dry conditions will worsen this weekend, with daytime temperatures approaching the low-to-mid 90s today and Sunday. Precipitation chances remain very low over the next week in the National Weather Service seven-day forecast.
