The City of Knoxville has received two workforce housing tax credit awards from the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

On Thursday the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) announced $35.9 million in workforce housing tax credits to support housing developments across the state. The awards will support 63 housing projects that are expected to create more than 2,000 residential units.

Of the 63 projects, Knoxville was awarded 2 projects that will be adding additional housing within the Veterans District. Origin Homes will be building five additional homes and HCI will be building a Phase 2 of Red Rock Residence that will be 10 townhomes on the south side of West Pleasant (same site as their current project under construction).

The City of Knoxville said in a social media post “We’re thrilled to see additional development and much needed housing within our community. We’re also thankful for the Thriving Communities designation that assisted Knoxville in receiving these project awards!”

IEDA received 137 applications requesting about $83 million in tax credits. Of the $35 million available for fiscal 2026, $17.5 million was specifically reserved for projects in Iowa’s 88 least-populated counties.
