The Newton YMCA says a $35,000 donation from the Monsignor McCann Community Fund will allow the YMCA to offer a free Spring Soccer program for 600 children, and a complimentary sports program for 5th and 6th graders this fall. The Monsignor McCann Community Fund has provided the Newton YMCA $35,000 for this effort the past several years. Mark Thayer, President of the Monsignor McCann Community Fund’s Board of Directors, presented this latest donation to Newton YMCA CEO George Sorensen. The Monsignor McCann Community Fund is a non-profit organization in Newton,  that provides yearly cash grants to organizations and individuals serving charitable needs in Newton and Jasper County. Established under the direction of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, it receives initial funding from the sale of assets by the McCann Village Corporation and supports programs that serve the poor and disadvantaged.
