The Indianola football team dominated the second half as they took down Cedar Rapids Jefferson to stay undefeated Friday night, winning 31-11 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.
It was a slow start for the Indians, throwing an interception on their first drive leading to a J-Hawks field goal, but the Indians answered with an 80-yard drive finished by a Dax Heimbaugh 1-yard touchdown rush to lead 7-3. The Indians special teams blocked a punt which led to a Kian Ruiz field goal, putting Indianola up 10-3. The J-Hawks answered with a big play that led to a touchdown, and a converted two-point conversion on a botched extra point try put CR Jefferson up 11-10. The Indians again marched down the field, scoring on another Heimbaugh 1-yard rush, which led to Indianola leading 17-11 at the break.
The Indians defense then dominated the entire second half, holding Jefferson to just 29 yards with Heimbaugh earning a third rushing touchdown and Asher Brueck finding Parker Amos on a 42-yard jet sweep pass to finish the game.
Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports it wasn’t the cleanest game, but he challenged the team at halftime and he was proud of the way they responded defensively.
Heimbaugh had 136 yards and three scores, while Aiden Curtis was dominant defensively wreaking havoc up the middle with constant pressure.
Indianola is now 3-0 on the season, and will travel to Newton next week.
