The Pella Christian football team wrapped up the non-district portion of their schedule Friday, falling on the road at Treynor 57-21 in a game heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

After falling behind 14-0 midway through the first quarter, the Eagles started to swing the momentum back in their favor, as Adam Kacmarynski scored his first career varsity touchdown with a 61-yard run with just under five minutes left in the period. Trailing 14-6 entering the second quarter, the Eagles defense cut into the deficit when Treynor quarterback Ethan Hill lost control of the football on a screen pass, and threw it backwards where Brecken Ritzert picked it up and ran it back 43 yards for a score. Ritzert then connected with Gilbert Flagel on a fade route on the two point conversion to pull the score even at 14-14. Treynor retook the lead at 21-14 with just under eight minutes left in the second quarter, but Pella Christian came back and retied the game at 21-21 with three seconds remaining in the half, when Ritzert and Flagel connected for a ten yard touchdown pass.

The momentum was short-lived for the Eagles however, as Treynor returned the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown to take a 28-21 lead into the halftime break. The Cardinals took control of the game from that point on, scoring 36 unanswered points in the second half to drop Pella Christian to 0-3 overall on the season. In his first career start at running back, Kacmarynski tallied 195 total yards of offense and a touchdown on 17 touches, while Ritzert had 197 total yards of offense with the passing and defensive touchdowns.

The Eagles football team will look to bounce back in the district opener next Friday at home against PCM.
