The Pleasantville football team defeated Mount Ayr at home Friday in their last non-district game.

The Trojans defeated the Raiders 33-22 with several key players out due to injury including Braylon Bingham, JJ Phillips, and Brayden Kennedy who are the team’s biggest offensive contributors. Pleasantville was up 19-8 at half and then the Trojans got up 26-8 in the third quarter before Mount Ayr answered back to make the game 26-16. Pleasantville then put together a strong drive to chew up some clock and scored to extend their lead to 33-16. Mount Ayr would score one more time but it wouldn’t be enough as the Trojans held on for the win.

Sophomore Brody Adreon stepped in as starting quarterback as Bingham’s replacement and threw for four touchdown passes in the contest. Ethan King had two receiving touchdowns, and Logan Roff and Cooper Kennedy each had one as Roff also had a touchdown run. Head Coach Mack Jorth says he was proud of how his team stepped up and found a way to win with a next man up mentality.

“I hope it’s a real confidence builder for our team to know that we can weather the storm, we can withstand issues, adversity or injuries which you need to do in the sport of football and find a way to win and have other guys step in and do a good job. I think it’s great development for some of those younger guys to get some really meaningful reps to show what they can do and continue to develop their skills for their future when their time comes.”

Pleasantville ends non-district play 3-0 and will travel to Interstate 35 next Friday for their first district game.
