Dominic Witt’s last second field goal powered the PCM football team past Williamsburg at home Friday night.
The Raiders scored first in PCM’s last non-district game to take a 7-0 lead but the Mustangs responded with a Chase Wagaman to Gavin Steenhoek touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. The score was knotted at 7 at halftime and then Witt made a field goal to put PCM on top 10-7 and Chase Wagaman had a rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 17-7. Another field goal by Witt put the Mustangs further in front 20-7 but Williamsburg then scored back to back touchdowns to take a 21-20 lead. The PCM offense then got Witt in range with just a few ticks left on the clock as he drilled a 36 yard field goal as time expired to secure the win. Head Coach Bonnett said he had faith in Witt to close out the win for his team.
“We honestly felt like he was good from 45 or 47 out but we wanted to get to 40 to give him a chance to do it if we weren’t able to get a touchdown. Dominic is a strong leg kicker and he works hard at it. He goes to a lot of camps and stuff like that so we had total faith in the kid.”
PCM finishes non-district play 2-1 and will play their first district game next week on the road at Pella Christian.
