Pella residents can celebrate Oktoberfest with a new celebration that will conclude the Spirit of Pella’s Fab Foodie Fridays.

The event will take place from 5-10 pm on October 10 in the community’s Klokkenspel Plaza on Franklin Street in downtown Pella. The celebration is hosted by Spirit of Pella in collaboration with The Cellar Peanut Pub, The Wijn House, and Clover Leaf on Franklin. Stuart Miller with the Spirit of Pella says the event will feature a variety of things, including traditional polka music and Oktoberfest street foods.

“Headlining the event, we’re bringing in an authentic polka band out of Chicago called Alpine Thunder, and they’re gonna be playing some Authentic German Polka style music for us. So, very excited for them. In terms of vendors, we’re gonna have a variety of food trucks there, and we’ve really tried our hardest to get everybody to come up with a German or Oktoberfest themed special for us.”

Kathy Cashen with the Spirit of Pella adds that the event will also have activities for families to enjoy.

“We’re excited about the root beer tent. It’s going to be serving 1919 Root Beer, which is a small brewery in the Midwest, and it’s alcohol free and caffeine free for the kids. And when we talk about the games, we’re talking about things like Steinholding and we’ll have a version for the kids so they can take their hand at being able to hold that Stein out as long as possible with the root beer. We’re going to have a barrel rolling contest that they’ll be able to do, and for the adults a nail hammering contest, all those very traditional things you would see in the German Oktoberfest but customized for a family here in Pella.”
