The Newton School District is releasing the upcoming student drop-off and pick-up guidelines today that are going to take effect in the coming weeks. Newton Superintendent Tom Messenger shared the information with the school board Monday night.
“Parents will enter the new driveway on the south side of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and follow the drive all the way to the front entrance on the west side of the building, dropping off students by the main entrance. Students are asked to exit the right side of the vehicle for safety reasons, so they are not walking between cars or through traffic to get up to the door. Then the parents will pull forward and go on towards Thomas Jefferson Drive, where they will turn right.”
The same process will be used for the afternoon pick-up, with the only difference being students will be waiting for their rides behind traffic safety cones. Parents are not allowed in the north parking lot, which is for staff parking and bus traffic. A map of the plan was released with the information today.
