
Central Men’s Soccer Team Caps Off Non-Conference Play with Shutout Win Over Cornell
The Central College men’s soccer team wrapped up non-conference play on Wednesday with a 2-0 home victory over Cornell College, extending their winning streak to three straight games.
Trysten Vasquez got the scoring started for the Dutch with an unassisted goal at the 40:48 mark. Ian Gredell followed that up with yet another unassisted goal at the 89:57 mark. Both goals were the first of the early season for Vasquez and for Gredell. Defensively, the Dutch put on a clinic, holding Cornell to zero goals and allowing just one shot on goal. The lone shot on goal resulted in a save by Central goalie Morgan Finkenbinder.
Conference play is up next for the Dutch, who stay at home for homecoming weekend, hosting the University of Dubuque on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Reverse Sweep Nets Central First Conference Volleyball Win
Playing in a five-set match for just the second time this season, the Central College volleyball team rallied to secure a victory in its American Rivers Conference opener Wednesday against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Central (12-5, 1-0 American Rivers Conference) overcame losses in the first two sets for a 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11 victory against the Prairie Wolves. Landry Pacha and Leslie Snow both had double-doubles to lead the Dutch, with Pacha recording 25 assists and 13 digs and Snow posting 14 kills and 12 digs. Middle hitter Kaitlyn Mumm had a team-high three blocks to go with 11 kills, while libero Colleen Kenney had 29 digs.
Central hosts Grinnell College at 7 pm on Friday.
