The Norwalk girls tennis team advanced to the Class 2A Region 5 Championship after defeating Sioux City East 5-2 in the semifinals on Wednesday, winning four singles matches and a doubles match to secure the victory.

Kierdyn Stockwell, Leah Black, Myla Brown, and Brooke McKinney all won their singles matches in two sets, while Logan Geisler and Elena Harder lost their singles matches in three sets. In doubles, the tandem of Harder and Black won in two sets to secure the fifth win needed for Norwalk’s victory. The doubles teams of Geisler/Stockwell and Brown/Jacey Crane won their first sets, but did not finish due to the fifth win already being secured.

Norwalk will play Johnston in the regional championship on Saturday, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Johnston High School.

The Norwalk boys golfers secured second place at the Southeast Polk Invitational on Wednesday. The Warriors finished with a team score of 298, trailing first-place Indianola by three strokes. 

Senior Lane Juergens paced Norwalk with a sixth-place round of 72, one stroke better than his performance on Monday. Parker Cary followed behind, placing ninth with a score of 74. Dayton Poen, Ian Lux, and Tillman Papcun also placed within the top 20 with scores of 75, 77, and 78 respectively.

The Warriors will return to play in the Ottumwa Golf Tournament on Monday. First tee is set for 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Ottumwa.
