While the Dutch are celebrating Homecoming this week, most activities for this year’s students are on the road and feature ranked competition.

The #3 in 4A Pella volleyball team (21-8 overall, 3-0 in the conference) travels to #4 Dallas Center-Grimes (19-8 overall, 2-1 in the LHC) to take on a Mustangs team that has found a mid-season groove, winning 12 of their last 13 contests. That includes two wins over #5 in 4A Norwalk and a narrow tournament loss to #1 in 4A Clear Creek-Amana this past Saturday at the Nevada tournament.

The all-time series between Pella and DCG is tied at 11-11 since 2009, according to Bound, with the Dutch winning the 2024 matchup at home 3-2. The Mustangs have a balanced offensive attack, led by 207 kills from Avery Edgington and 175 from Maggie Leifker. Gwen Farley leads the offense with 670 assists. Tonight’s varsity matchup is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at DCG Meadows High School in Grimes.

Pella Cross Country returns to competition tonight, as the #1 ranked girls and #2 boys head to Williamsburg. For the girls, they are coming off of their runner-up finish at the Griak Invitational, and will rest their top two girls, Marissa Ferebee and Elsie Brenneman. Ranked opposition includes #3 Mount Vernon-Lisbon, #5 Solon, #15 Williamsburg, and #8 in 2A Pella Christian. The Dutch boys will have their full lineup at the ready tonight, led by #4 in 3A Canaan Dunham. Pella takes on #3 ranked Mount Vernon-Lisbon. Varsity races begin at 5:00 this evening in Williamsburg.
