Taking part in her final matches in a Pella Christian Tennis uniform, senior Ava Breems competed at the Class 1A State Singles Tournament in Iowa City on Wednesday. At Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex in Iowa City, Breems opened the tournament against Gabi Jacobs of Shenandoah. The Eagles senior dropped the first match 6-2, 6-3, moving her to the consolation bracket. In her second match, Breems competed against Poojita Mukadam of Fairfield, but had her season come to an end by an identical score of 6-2, 6-3. With her two matches at the tourney, Ava became the first Pella Christian girls tennis player to compete in either the singles or doubles bracket at the Individual State Tennis Tournament for the Eagles since the spring of 2023, when Katy Roose and Sydney Van Arendonk finished 2nd in the doubles bracket. Breems finishes her senior season with a 17-7 overall match record in singles play, which helped lead Pella Christian to a team record of 9-3 in their first fall season.
