The Melcher-Dallas Volleyball Squad defeated Moulton-Udell on Thursday night in four sets 25-20, 25-12, 26-28 and 25-16. The Saints seemed to have things under control coming out of the second set which they dominated, but the Eagles took advantage of hitting and serving errors by the Saints to extend the match an extra set. Coach Jesyka Nolte was happy with the win, but tells KNIA Sports her team needs to have a better mindset to close out matches.
Nolte: “That is key, we have to find a way to play together. We have to play the mental game, and we have to shake it off, and we have to get it together mentally, and sometimes that hurts us on the court.”
The Saints were led in serving by Sophie Lamb going 21/22 with five aces along with Lotty Nolte going a perfect 18/18 with three aces. Maddy DeJong had nine kills and four digs and Kesley Reed came up with eight and four digs. Ashlyn Metz had seven digs and Mykaylah Gentry had a solo block. The Saints are now 4-7 this season. The Melcher-Dallas Football Squad will travel to Montezuma tonight. The Saints have been struggling with mistakes and turnovers all season and that is one thing Coach Jason Mason looks to turn around tonight against one of the better teams in the district.
Mason: “If we could just clean up mistakes and get rid of turnovers in general. Obviously it’s been on film too so we need to get that cleaned up.”
Along with trying to keep control of the ball, the Saints will have to deal with a balanced Braves team that likes to mix up the run and pass. Kick off is set for 7:00.
