The Indianola football team never trailed as they shut out Des Moines Lincoln 56-0 in their homecoming game Friday night as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians got the scoring started on a Bo Blake to Rylan Hilton 34-yard touchdown connection in the air, followed by a pair of Dax Heimbaugh rushing touchdowns to lead 21-0 early in the second quarter, when the game took a turn. A bad snap by the Railsplitters on a punt attempt was recovered by the Indians in the endzone for a score, then Ian McDonald found the endzone on a two-yard rush to lead 35-0 with less than four minutes to go in the first half. A pick-six interception by Cole Meyer, then another fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff led to a Max Martinez touchdown as the Indians went up 49-0 at the half.
With running clock throughout the entire second half, Indianola starters were able to rest and the Indians were able to get most of the roster into the game, with Jackson Pribil recovering yet another fumble in the endzone for a late touchdown to get to the final tally.
Head coach Eric Kluver said the win is a big momentum push for a very important last three games of the season, as the Indians make a push for the playoffs.
Dax Heimbaugh had 158 yards on 15 carries and a pair of scores to lead Indianola offensively before exiting the game with an injury. Indianola improves to 4-2 on the season, and has a crucial matchup with Ankeny Centennial on the road next week.
