A promising start on defense, melted away into a 56-15 loss to Winterset for the Knoxville Football Squad on Friday heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Panthers forced a three and out on the Huskies, but a three and out by Knoxville gave the ball back to Winterset and five plays later the Huskies scored the first of their eight touchdowns on the night. Knoxville would get on the board in the 2nd quarter on a 12 yard Emmitt Hyatt run, he added another score late in the 4th quarter on a one yard run. Coach Matt Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports while he sees signs of improvement from his team, there is still much to clean up.
Dunkin: “We were happy about that first series and forcing them to punt and they made some adjustments. We’ve got better at tackling and we just have to work on it and keep cleaning it up.”
Hyatt led the ground attack for Knoxville, which was held to 77 yards, Hyatt had 75 of that. Roston McCarty was 9/17 for 102 yards and three interceptions. Eli Fuller caught six passes for 48 yards as Knoxville was out-gained 405-175. The Panthers are now 1-5 and 1-1 in the district and will return home next week to play Des Moines Christian.
