The Simpson women’s soccer team broke loose in the second half, scoring five times to cruise to a 5-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan at Buxton Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, the Storm (6-3-2, 2-0 A-R-C) exploded for five goals in 36 minutes. Allie McCoy got things started in the 54th minute, and Savannah Schneider followed in the 67th with an assist from Elle Street. Brissa Valdez made it 3-0 in the 81st off a feed from Pepper Earle, and Taylor Smith added another just three minutes later. Smith then set up Georgia Paulson in the 88th minute to cap the scoring.

On the men’s side, Nebraska Wesleyan (3-3-4, 1-0-1) jumped on the board first, scoring just 11 minutes in to the match. However, the lead did not hold for long, as Simpson’s (3-5-5, 0-2-0) Mitchell Dickson responded with a goal just minutes later to equalize the match. The goal marked the sixth of the season for Dickson, a team-leading mark and tied for second most in the conference.

Later in the half, Iain Macrae, off an assist from Tim Sedlock, put Simpson in the driver’s seat, scoring his fourth goal of the season to take a 2-1 lead. The lead held throughout the first half until the 54th minute mark of the second half.

Nebraska Wesleyan’s Max Matthies singlehandly led the comeback, scoring the tying goal nine minutes into the second half. Then ten minutes later, Matthies struck again, this time for the eventual game-winner to secure the 3-2 result over the Storm.
