This week is annual Fire Prevention Week.
The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is “Charge into Fire Safety” which works to educate everyone about using batteries safely. The theme from the National Fire Protection Agency stresses how important it is to buy, charge, and recycle safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. Knoxville Firefighter Brandon Glenn says there are serval safe practices when it comes to these batteries.
“Our big tips are to buy products from reputable companies who safety test their products, to charge safely with the appropriate cords away from flammable objects and furniture, to unplug those charges and batteries when they’re fully charged and to not throw those batteries in the garbage and to not throw those batteries in the garbage. Go to calltorecycle.org to find a place to recycle them.”
The Knoxville Fire Department Fire Prevention Open House will be held on Wednesday. Many other fire departments in Marion County and statewide will also have events this week. Hear more from Glenn on Monday’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
