Newton Police say officers recovered methamphetamine and marijuana while arresting a Des Moines man on a warrant last week. Thirty-year-old Aaron Daniel Reeves is charged with three class D felonies for allegedly possessing 52.3 grams of marijuana and 2.3 grams of methamphetamine. Newton Police say the illegal substances were found in a backpack Reeves discarded as he was running from officers. The arrest report says a scale and drug pipes were also recovered from the backpack. Reeves was arrested in downtown Newton after a short foot pursuit. The felony charges Newton Police filed against Reeves include a controlled substance violation, third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. Court records show the Des Moines man has prior drug-related convictions in Jasper County from October 2017 and April 2019.
