
A Newton woman has been sentenced to ten years in prison for threatening a man about a debt outside a Newton liquor store. Forty-year-old Lisa Marie Dickerson accepted a plea agreement on Monday. Newton Police said she pointed some type of gun at the victim on October 12th of last year, and told the victim they needed to pay what they owed. The police report said the victim was with his father and brother at the time, and that the incident outside World to Go Liquor on First Avenue East was caught on video. Court documents state DIckerson and her boyfriend admitted to officers that the victim owed the boyfriend $200, and they thought the incident was funny. Dickerson also said the gun she used was a water gun, and stated she had “ditched” it before Newton police arrived at her home.
The Newton woman was sentenced by District Court Judge Nicholas Bailey on a reduced charge of 2nd degree robbery, a class C felony, while five other charges were dismissed. Those charges included extortion, a class D felony, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class C felony, and three aggravated misdemeanor counts of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.
