Another Impact Community Action Partnership sign-up session for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, known as LIHEAP, is occurring in Newton today. There was also a sign-up session last Tuesday at the Newton Salvation Army. Scheduled appointments for this morning at Discover Hope at 733 First Avenue East will give way to walk-in applications from 1 to 3 p.m. To apply for financial assistance through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program in October, someone in the household must be disabled or 60-years-old or above. Households also qualify for the October sign-up if they have a non-working furnace, a utility-related emergency, low or empty propane tank, a past due payment arrangement, or a disconnect notice.

Impact Community Action Partnership will also be signing up Jasper residents in Colfax next Tuesday, October 21st, at the Colfax Public Library. Appointments can be made for that location from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with walk-in applications accepted from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A fourth in-person LIHEAP application will occur on Tuesday, October 28th, at the Newton Public Library. Appointments for it can be scheduled for 9 a.m. through noon, while walk-in applications will be accepted from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Home visits are also available for those who qualify.
