The Newton Colfax-Mingo Pella Aquagirls host Boone and Carroll in a triangular tonight, while the Newton Volleyball team celebrates senior night by hosting #4 Dallas Center-Grimes.
The Aquagirls are coming off a second-place finish in a four-team field at a swim meet in Ankeny on Thursday. The squad placed ahead of Des Moines Roosevelt and Indianola, but came up 152 points short of Ankeny. Seniors Harper Barton and Tori White, sophomores Temple Barton, Julia Nedder, and Alexa Van Maanen, along with freshman Reid McCloud have consistently been the leading performers. The Aquagirls have won all five of their dual meets this season, and won the Williamsburg triangular in late August. Boone defeated Carroll in a dual one week ago, 109-73. It was the Toreadores’ fourth win of the season, while Boone has yet to win a meet. Tonight’s triangular at the Newton YMCA begins at 5:30 p.m.
It’s Senior Night for the Cardinal Volleyball team as Dallas Center-Grimes comes to town with a 23-11 record. The Mustangs have juniors Avery Edgington and Maggie Liefker with 248 and 237 kills respectively, while sophomores Anna Jackson leads the team with 346 digs and Ava Smid is the ace leader with 39.
Newton’s volleyball team is 10-12 with junior Morgan Frehse leading in kills with 192, and sophomore Camryn Klein high in digs with 118. Frehse and Klein are tied for most aces on the team at 25. The Cardinals’ volleyball match against the #4 Mustangs starts at 7:15 p.m.
