
Indianola senior Hayden Stockberger
The Norwalk boys golf team ended day one of the 4A State Golf Championship in 10th place, while Indianola’s Hayden Stockberger sits at 57th place as an individual at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston. The Warriors ended the day with 323 total strokes, trailing Bettendorf and Xavier, who are tied for eighth place, by three strokes. They were led by senior Lane Juergens, who shot a 79 and is tied for 30th place with five other golfers. Ian Lux followed behind, shooting 80 and tying for 36th place, while Tillman Papcun shot 81 and tied for 46th place. Dayton Poen scored 83, tying for 57th, Parker Cary shot 85, tying for 65th, and Kota Bentz recorded a 92, tying him at 79th.
Head coach Steve Wermerskirchen commended his players for battling hard on a course he says has the toughest greens in the state, and looks to bounce back as they finish on day 2.
Also in Johnston, Indianola’s Hayden Stockberger ended the day with a +11 over par score of 83 and is tied for 57th in the meet.
Today is the second and final round of the championship, and play will conclude at 3 p.m. with tiebreaker decisions and awards to follow.
