The Norwalk volleyball team, along with the boys and girls cross country teams, have recently learned their postseason assignments.

The Norwalk volleyball team, which enters Saturday’s Winterset Tournament with an overall record of 23-10, is the top seed in Class 4A, Region 5. The fifth-ranked Warriors will receive a first-round bye on Tuesday, October 21, then host Bondurant-Farrar or Newton on Thursday, October 23, in a regional semifinal at 7:00 p.m. The Region 5 final is set for Tuesday, October 28. Teams on the opposite half of Norwalk’s bracket include 11th-ranked Ballard, Nevada and Boone.

The Warriors will play five matches at Winterset on Saturday. A final set of Class 4A rankings will be released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Monday. Norwalk is seeking a second trip in three years to the State Volleyball Tournament.

The Norwalk cross country squads will travel west for next Wednesday’s Class 4A State Qualifying Meet. The Warriors have been assigned to Region 1 at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs. The 10-team meet will start at 4:00 p.m.

The Norwalk boys are seeking a seventh consecutive state meet berth after placing fifth in Class 4A last year. The Warriors are currently ranked 10th in 4A and will be competing in a field that also includes No. 4 Dallas Center-Grimes and No. 9 Ankeny Centennial. The top three teams advance to the State Meet in Fort Dodge.

The Norwalk girls are ranked 15th in Class 4A. Their top competition in Council Bluffs includes third-ranked Centennial, No. 6 DC-G and No. 16 Des Moines Roosevelt.
