The Norwalk volleyball team ended its regular season with a 4-1 outing at the Winterset Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. The Warriors began the day sweeping Greene County (21-13, 21-16) and followed that with a three-set victory over Van Meter (19-21, 21-13, 15-4). In their third game, they were met with some resistance and fell to Red Oak in three sets (21-15, 13-21, 18-16), but turned things around with two more sweeps over Winterset (21-9, 21-9) and Webster City (21-4, 21-8). Norwalk ends the season with an overall record of 27-11 and a conference record of 4-2.
Head coach John Fulton expressed that it was good to get through the last regular-season date healthy while cleaning up some minor details. He commended junior Hadley Michael’s ball distribution as she notched 109 total assists on the day, and also noted that middles Jacey Crane and Jillian Hammond played well both offensively and defensively throughout the tournament. Hammond recorded 15 kills on the afternoon, and Crane had 14.
The Warriors will begin postseason play on Thursday in the Class 4A Region 5 Semifinals, awaiting the winner of Newton and Bondurant-Farrar, who play on Tuesday. Norwalk’s semifinal matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Norwalk’s NPECC.
