People hired by the Jasper County Auditor’s Office to be poll workers for the November 4th election are undergoing training this week. Kristin Carley, Deputy Auditor of Elections in Jasper County, says poll workers are required to undergo training every year.
“It’s two hours at most, and we go over everything. A lot of it is learning as you go on the job, so putting new people with experienced workers is also something we try to do.”
Carley says between 100 and 120 poll workers will be on the job in Jasper County on election day. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors just raised the pay for poll workers this year to $15.00 an hour. Anyone interested in being a poll worker for a future election should contact the Jasper County Auditor’s Office on the second floor of the Jasper County Courthouse in Newton. The office phone number is 641-792-7016.
